Oregon Day 2 - Cannon Beach and Netarts

On day 2, we got up and left our cousins. It was so fun to be with them! We headed toward Cannon Beach and the famous Haystack Rock.

We were lucky enough to arrive at a low tide and were able to see all of the tide pools. We saw anemones, crabs, starfish, and others. It was so fascinating. We knew the water would be cold, but we were all very surprised by how cold it was. It was FREEZING!!

After looking around the tidepools, we had to walk up the beach a ways to where Dad parked the car. We loved walking through the waves (although they were cold!!) We noticed little crabs when the waves came in and the kids loved finding these as well as searching for shells.

We ate lunch at a delicious seafood place and got some fish and chips. Then we went and hung out at the little Columbia river that goes into Cannon Beach. It was interesting to see the river water level change with the tide, just like the ocean did. It was much warmer on this river. The kids ended up mostly building sand castles and things like that. We could see Haystack Rock in the distance, it didn't look too far, so Mom and Kate headed over. We were surprised by how far it actually was--it took 20 minutes of brisk walking to reach it--it is a HUGE rock. It was so interesting to see the high tide compared to the low tide of just a few hours earlier. We loved this first day at the beach.

Next, we got in the car and headed for Netarts near Tillamook for where we would stay that night. The place was very nice, up on a cliff that viewed Netarts Bay feeding into the ocean. There were blackberry bushes all around where we stayed and the blackberries were just starting to get ripe. There weren't tons, but we were able to pick handfuls here and there. It was crazy to see wild blackberries all over. We were able to walk down to the beach in about 2 minutes and enjoyed hanging out here for a while.
