Kauai Day 5

We woke up Sunday morning and headed to church in Kapa’a at 8:30am.  It was a neat sacrament meeting.  We met a lady named Kaui Neves who was a neat lady with such light in her who gave us her contact information.  We also saw the Mertins again here.  We talked for a bit and exchanged some favorite things we had done.  They told us about a place called Lava Lava Beach Club that was delicious to eat at.

After sacrament meeting we tried to go have breakfast at Kountry Kitchen (recommendation from Dave) in Kapa’a but it was too crowded.  Instead we headed back to our hotel to get changed.  We headed back to Kapa’a to have lunch at The Lava Lava Beach Club behind the Kauai Shores Hotel.  They had amazing Fish Tacos and Fish and Chips on the lunch menu.  It was an amazing setting with tables right on the beach in the shade of the palm trees and a beautiful view of the beach.  Definitely a highlight!  Lava Lava Beach Club is located near the Coconut Marketplace south of the main Kapa’a area. We took our time here and really enjoyed this lunch.

Julie elevated her foot every chance she can get.

Then we rented beach cruiser bikes at Hele on Kauai.  We rode bikes for a couple hours up and down the coast.  It was fun, peaceful, and beautiful.  We made it from the main Kapa’a area to the north past Kealia Beach to the end of the trail.

Just short of the end of the bike path there is a different paved path that goes up to the main highway through a tree tunnel that’s pretty cool.  The path goes up to the Donkey Beach parking area.  This would be the way to access Donkey Beach if you’re not on the bike path.

At the end of the trail we walked down a trail to a pretty cool private cove with a beach.  The only problem was all the ants on the beach (Julie didn’t notice and loved searching for shells here).

This was such a highlight--riding along the coast on a nice Sunday afternoon bike ride.

After the bike ride we stopped to get shaved ice at JoJo’s shaved ice at Coconut Market.  JoJo’s was better than Wailua Shaved Ice in Jeff's opinion because it has a big scoop of delicious macadamian nut ice cream at the bottom of the shaved ice. (Julie liked both, the coconut cream at Wailua was incredible)

Then we went back to the resort to get cleaned up.  That night we headed back to have dinner at the Hukilau Lanai at the Kauai Coast Resort at the Beachboy--our last night on the island.  We even asked them to reserve the best table in the restaurant for us.  This time Jeff ordered the filet mignon that was spectacular.  We loved it again.  Everything was delicious.

These are pictures coming into our resort

We drove to look at the Wailua river--this is where we will be kayaking tomorrow.

We headed back to the hotel for the night to pack up since we had to check out of the hotel in the morning.
