New England Trip Day 10

Saturday was mostly an exploring Vermont day. We drove up to Smuggler's Notch. This is a place near the Canadian border. It is said that during Prohibition, people would meet here to pick up or deliver smuggled goods and leave them in caves for someone else to pick up.

The kids LOVED climbing around these rocks so much. They were very tall and a fall would be dangerous. They scrambled all over the rocks and through the caves.

Nearby was the Von Trapp Family lodge (as in Sound of Music) and it was so fun to see. Mom especially enjoyed it!

Down the road a little bit was a hike to a waterfall. Some people had gotten too close while we were there. He slipped and broke his leg badly. We were hiking as the EMT's came through to pull him up the steep trail on a gurney.

We stopped at a cool graveyard with unusual headstones. This one says, "
It is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned.
It is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

We also stopped at the original Ben and Jerry's and got some ice cream too

The flavor graveyard shows flavors that used to be around that are now retired.

Waiting in line.

We feel like we got a real flavor for Vermont today. We loved exploring!
