New England Trip Day 2

We started the morning running to get to the Statue of Liberty by 10 am (what feels like 8 am for us) We were supposed to be there one hour early and needed time to get down there so we woke up at 8. We got breakfast sandwiches, then ran to the subway, picked up passes for everyone and headed down. The subway was fun and definitely a great NYC experience!

We made it down (at 9:35) but we’re just fine to go through security and get on the boat. We loved the Statue of Liberty so much. It was all of our first time to the statue and seeing it up close and it was incredible. We loved hearing the audio tour and going through the museum and learning the history of it. We felt so inspired!

After Liberty Island, we went to Ellis Island. This is where immigrants in the late 1800s and early 1900s were required to stop and “check in” to America before entering. We were able to look at the records and find records for Durtschi and Lehnhof relatives.

The registry room was cool to see

This was a bunk room— a place people had to stay while waiting to hear if they would get to stay in the US or not. We left Ellis Island feeling so grateful for our ancestors that sacrificed so much so that we could have a better life.

Logan and Ty started getting tired at this point.

We stopped and got lunch at a food cart, then went to One World Observatory. It is the tallest building in NYC and has 360 degree views of the city. We loved checking out the city. The elevator was super fast too and was pretty exhilarating.

This is outside after, looking at the building we had just been at the top of.

We were all getting tired, but we wanted to stop at Canal Street in Chinatown to check it out. Everyone was trying to get us to buy stuff and it was a fun and interesting atmosphere. After walking there, everyone was worn out and ready for some down time. Dad and the 2 older boys ended up going to a Mets game and the rest stayed back to rest.

While Dad, Austin and Scott were at the Mets game, Mom, Kate, Ty and Logan got some dinner and ran into some exciting characters on Times Square.

The boys had a great time at the game. The Mets scored 10 runs in one inning!

Today was SO much fun. Some awesome memories were made today!
