New England Trip Day 3

Our big activity today was going to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. Scott and Austin were SO excited— this was something they had pegged a while before our trip as something they really wanted to do.

First, we toured the Growler. This was a submarine actually used during the Cold War. It had the capability of carrying nuclear missiles. It had 90-100 men on it and it was so cool to tour.

These were the Captain’s quarters.

This picture pretty much sums up how Scott felt about the whole thing.

This was a Navy man who was telling us about his experience.

These were sleeping quarters for most soldiers—a four- bunk bed!!

This was the aircraft carrier Intrepid that we got to tour.

Austin coming through one of many doors we had to go through.

Once we finished the Growler, we started exploring the humongous ship. It was very cool!

They had an interactive learning area that the kids loved.

Scott really enjoyed the whole experience, but really came alive when we found the anti aircraft guns!

We got to go up on “the island” or the bridge of the ship (where the captain stayed most of the time) and walk all around that area. This was the view from there.

Someone built a lego replica of the Intrepid seen here— so cool!

There was a spaceship that launched into space and when it came back to earth, it landed on the ocean and the Intrepid picked up those astronauts. This is a replica of that space capsule.

This man was a part of the Israeli navy and told us about the ship and some of its features.

This exhibit had an airplane the kids could fly, they loved it!

We walked down 5th Avenue and all of the fancy shops
This is St Patrick’s cathedral on 5th Avenue, a super cool old church.

We also went up to Central Park. We ate lunch there, walked around, played on the rocks and watched a man blow the biggest bubbles. It was a nice little oasis in the city.

We saw Donald Trump on 5th Avenue too

Everyone was tired, so all of the boys hung out in the hotel room while Dad, Kate and Mom went and walked up and down the street vendors. We had a dinner of some street tacos and a quesadilla—delicious!
